On “La mer”
Dietmar
Told at a live listening session
That was during my most carefree time as a student. We were in Yugoslavia. We were sitting by the sea and this song was playing. I was 22 or 23 years old. That was in the late 1960s. I was with two acquaintances, one was with his wife and the other was my dentist at the time, who had repaired my teeth. He said, ’You’re coming with us to Yugoslavia.’ I said, ’You’re crazy, where am I going to get the money?’ ’It’s simple, your father will get a bill and I’ll give you the money and we’ll go.’ I stayed in touch with them for a long time.
